Dunkirk July 11

Day One of the Ameracan Tournament!

Head out today in the "first" wave at 7 am.  Forecast for later in the day looked dicey, but after checking radar
and conferring with a couple other boats, it seemed as though we had a pretty good window.....

By 9:00, we had 1 in the box, but a check of the radar showed some storms popping up over Long Point
on the Canadian side.  By 11:30, we were up to 4 in the box, but no real weight and had dodged several
storms that had tracked south of us.  Friends of our inside said it was bad, so we opted to stay offshore
and duck 'em!

Shortly thereafter, we were in the process of clearing rods when we could see that the final storm wasn't
going to miss, so off we went...but unfortunately not fast enough!   Very big waves, multiple directions, lots
of white water, lightning...in a very short time!  Probably one of the worst day's I've ever had on the lake.
"Times Two" handled it all, and so did my hearty crew....but they kept saying something about a 3 hour tour...!!

Fish were deep..70 fow....Big slides at 125 with chattersticks and the 10 color/2 oz combo was
our best again.

But check this out....we get back to the dock...and our team and others had the impression that at the
dock meant your were done for the day...fine....after our ride in, we could accept that.    But then we find out that
the committee was telling boats that even though they had tied up, they could go back out; then later found out
that even guys that had weighed in could go back out.....I think you get the picture.....

but we opted to adhere to what we believed to be the rule, and stay dockside with our friends on "Alibi", having a
bite to eat and some cool beverages....

Bottom line, wild day on the lake, our team as well as the rest of the fleet were all safe...and we were sitting
in 30th (unofficially) out of 82 boats......AND our pal Capt Bud (Alibi) crew was in 5th!
