Oak Orchard Aug 21-25
Just got back from our annual excursion to Oak Orchard on Lake Ontario.
We get there on Saturday, get settled in the cabin, get the boats in the water
and by then..... we are greeted with a T-storm. With more forecast, and the
lake kicking up a touch, we opt to hang out and save it for Day 2.
Sunday, of course arrives with some rain, and the lake is pushing, so we
sit some more...... Finally, by late afternoon the lake has settled and off
we go! Fished the inside from 50 to about 150 fow. Very little on the graph,
and we end up with 1 steelhead around 7lbs on a mag NK off the rigger.
Fish appears to us to be pretty thin for its size. And as darkness approaches,
so do the winds.....
Monday....ROLLS BIG TIME! Waves are pounding on the wall, everyone is
parked. So we hung around the cabin exchanging stories, eating too much
and have a few beverages. Also take a stroll down "Charter Row" at the
marina to oogle at the bigger boats.
Tuesday...FINALLY...it's looking better. Decide to head offshore as the lake
has flipped and inside is very cold. Drop in at the 29 line, fish out to the 34 line,
taking fish all the way. End up with 17 fish on for the morning, mostly steelhead,
and 1 small brown trout. DW superslim in Get er done was good of the rig, as
well as a double crush NK. DW chicken wing off 1 diver was good; and a
white/orange spin doc with a siggs rigs no-see-um of the other side.
Fished the inside for the evening bite, went 1/2 on kings (both were low 20's).
Fishlander glow NBK off the 60 foot rigger got those.
Today, we did 1 more king inside (white/glow spin doc/no see um siggs rig)
before we called it a trip.
Once again we had a blast at the Black North Inn when we weren't fishing.
Thanks Steve, Tracy, Karen, Kailee, and the rest of the great BNI staff. The best
burgers anywhere and plenty of cold beverages! Check them out via our links page
and make sure you stop in if ever in the Point Breeze neighborhood! Tell them
the Dunkirk boys sent you!!
Here are a couple of pics.......
