Burt Dam-Nov. 11

Lake Erie tribs are hurting for water, so Capt. Bud (Alibi) asked if I wanted to
take a ride today to fish Burt Dam for brown trout.   We were hoping that the
fact that it was a weekday, and after the bulk of the salmon run, that we might
find the crowd to be less.   It was...some....

Got down to the water before first light, and found a decent stretch to try a
bit south of the rail trestle.   Bud hooked up with a small salmon pretty quick
but that was it early.   He moved closer to the bridge and hooked up a couple
of times before the rest of the guys crowded in.

I stayed where I was, because I had some elbow room....hooked up twice
but didn't land either.  Bud came back up and did have a nice steelhead before
we quit.

Fishing seemed to pick up a bit around us mid-morning, about the time that
it seemed like the flow increased.   By 11 am it was pretty crowded, and we
got tired of dealing with guys litterally fishing a rod's length away.

I'm also amazed by the guys that have half dead salmon on ropes, and are
dragging them in the dirt as they go.   Even more amazed at the disguise some
use to try to make it seem like they aren't lifting.    A spinning rod and reel is fine,
but the jig head with the twister tail that you cast 3 feet, and jerk hard as fish go by
doesn't really fool anyone.

Beautiful day though, and we had fun anyway!
