Rick Martin (Buffalo Sabres)

As a long time Buffalo Sabres fan, I received some sad news today with the
passing of Number 7, Rick Martin.

Growing up, he was always my favorite player, and is why I choose to wear
number 7 in the local floor hockey league that I play in.

I still remember going to the last game of 1975-76; vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs
with my brother, mother and grandmother (she loved Rene Robert).   "Rico"
entered the game with 49 goals, and Danny Gare had 47.   The Sabres fed
Martin all night long, but it was Gare that ended up with 50, and Martin could
not get that last one.

It was kind of fitting today that Nathan Gerbe scored from Martin's favorite
spot... a booming slapshot from the top of the circle.

Our condolensces go out to the Martin Family.
