Kiawah Island, SC
Recently back from a family trip to the lowcountry of South Carolina. We'd never been
there in June before, and man, was it GREAT! I like the heat, so the daily temps in the
low to mid 90's were perfect to fish and hit the beach.
While there, my son and I again booked a charter with Capt. John Ward of Affinity Charters
(www.affinitycharters.com). This was the 6th time we've been with Capt. John, and once again
he gave us some great fishing, and again it was a bit different than the last time.
We started on an artificial reef about 4 miles or so offshore. There we caught 11 different
kinds of fish including a small cobia, a small shark, sea bass, flounder, bluefish and
a toad fish, and a large loggerhead turtle (released unharmed) to name a few. Spinning rods,
circle hooks and bait. Simple, yet awesome.
Then we went in behind the working shrimp boats to fish for sharks, and landed 5 in the 40-45lb
range. A little bigger rod/reel set up, and man did they hit the bait hard!

We also did some crabbing off the local dock, and caught a bunch of different fish on our own too,
including spot, croakers, paddlefish and weakfish.
From the Sweetwater beer at King St. Grill to Velma's fried cabbage, lots of good food and drink too!
Can't wait to go back!!!
