Headed out on New Year’s Day with Marty (www.canadawaycreek outfitter.com) for our annual New Year’s Day attempt to land a fish on the first day of the new year. Goal was a steelhead, but they have proven to be very sparse this tributary season.
Tried a couple of the regular spots for winter, no good. Opted to move to a new spot farther upstream. Water nice and green, temps not to cold and good flow.
No steelies, but we managed to hook up with a couple of brookies! My first brook trout ever. These are not a native fish, but have been planted thru the efforts of another local guide, Alberto Rey. So thank you for that!
You may have noticed, if you are a regular follower, that we have been unusually silent on our blog since October. We had been working with Go Daddy to upgrade our website….took a bit longer than we expected….and part of that was too not change up anything we had on the site when they started so as to not mess them up!
Well, they are finished with the heavy lifting, and now we have to get your 2016 pictures updated! We’re working on that over the next few weeks.
In the meantime….What are you doing January 20-22?
We will be there all 3 days in a booth with our good friend Captain Gary Katta (Kongo charters). We will have some used tackle, and certainly will be willing to exchange fishing stories.
Our walleye seminar will be on Saturday, January 21 at 2:00. Come see us and lets talk some walleye (or spring salmon) fishing!
