Headed out on New Year’s Day with Marty (www.canadawaycreek outfitter.com) for our annual New Year’s Day attempt to land a fish on the first day of the new year. Goal was a steelhead, but they have proven to be very sparse this tributary season.
Tried a couple of the regular spots for winter, no good. Opted to move to a new spot farther upstream. Water nice and green, temps not to cold and good flow.
No steelies, but we managed to hook up with a couple of brookies! My first brook trout ever. These are not a native fish, but have been planted thru the efforts of another local guide, Alberto Rey. So thank you for that!
